... happened this day. --Diary of King George III, July 4, 1776

We are on vacation. :-)

So yesterday was busy waiting. Packed up the previous evening; rose at more or less the usual time, poured fabulous amounts of fresh food into the cat bowls, took the dogs and the suitcases in the car, and set out. Forty-five minutes later, we checked the dogs into "camp" where they'll be safe and looked-after for a week.

Thence to Manchester, NH, and Southwest Airlines, connecting via Chicago/Midway to Denver, where my brother was waiting for us in the cell-phone lot.

The 'rents are getting along; a little older and a little slower each year. Their 60th wedding anniversary was this past spring, and we didn't make the trip then. It's good to see them. And to see the place SW of Denver where they've lived for 30 or 35 years, in the summertime. The innovation to make the house more user-friendly is chair-lifts on the two staircases, which are really quite nifty. In addition to transporting themselves up and down stairs, they use it for bringing the groceries up (entrance is in the basement, and the kitchen is on the main floor).

We went for a bit of a hike this morning, and toxicfur got some rather wonderful pictures of the wildness just over the back lot line (in Pike National Forest). We're hoping to do more of that in the coming days. And perhaps to visit Boulder, where I grew up, and where toxicfur has never been.

My brother is bringing his family over for dinner, I think, tomorrow, and a time or two over the weekend. It's always fun to see the nieces and nephew.

The silence is really quite wonderful. It's very easy to hear the bloodhound (who lives half a mile away) when he has a mind to bay (not often). I'm hoping the clouds clear tonight so I can see the 108 stars they have here.

I downloaded firefox 3.0 today for my iBook, and I'm still getting used to it. There is no scroll bar in this text entry box, for example.
