And, no, I didn't buy a broken-down motorcycle.

The other day, I mentioned getting a new temporary crown and george mentioned that he was far tougher than me, having had a crown fall out and then recementing it back in all by himself.

I could not let this stand! I had to prove I was just as tough as george, so I immediately switched from a protein-heavy diet to a sticky-foods-heavy one. Sure enough, yesterday at breakfast I came within a hair of swallowing the crown along with my toast.

Tragically I discovered a flaw in my master plan when I noticed I did not, in fact, have any dental adhesive on my person, so I was forced to scurry off to my dentist and get her to put it back in.

Weee!

In other whiny health news, while reviewing for the next part of the black belt test (this saturday) SWHTL took out my knee big time. I haven't told her, but it hurts like hell. OTOH, everyone seems to think the demonstration kata we had to come up with is great, and one or two of them even recognized the music. Yes, with each drum roll at the beginning, I take a swing at SWHTL and she puts me down like rabid dog. I hit the floor so many times in 3 minutes that I think I'm going to wear sparring gear under my gi for the actual performance.

In other news: best wedding photos ev4r!.

They do black belts in modern dance now? by Rogerborg (2.00 / 0) #1 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 11:16:13 AM EST
You can't really taste it but you do have to be careful not to use too much, in case you glue your mouth shut.

It started out as a joke by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 1) #4 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 11:26:52 AM EST
because the refrain is "you better start doing it right".

It actually works pretty well, once I cut it down to pieces we could work with.

I did that twice by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #3 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 11:20:48 AM EST
once with the temporary before our trip to Niagara Falls, I just stuck it back in there, and with the real crowns but temporary adhesive a few weekends ago.

I can prove my machismo! I'll just have to start watching more MacGyver dvds so I'm prepared for the next contingency.

BTW, I did not buy a broken down motorcycle by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #7 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 11:28:29 AM EST
I was given it.

I did buy lots of parts for it.

I read your diary - I know that thing actually moves, what, once a year or so?

It reminds me of my dad's 55 Nomad. It would have been in perfect condition, if you reassembled the body. And put the engine back. And fixed that sticking shifter. And made sure you had a chase car with a spare voltage regulator and battery just in case....

In taunting the borg alone it has by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #10 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 11:35:55 AM EST
though I have high hopes for this riding season, this week I'm going to tear apart my starter clutch.

I have put 4000 miles on it in the last 4 years.

4000 miles... by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 3) #11 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 11:37:18 AM EST

Hah! You can't trick me with a line like that. Mileage only counts if the motor was running at the time. Pushing it home doesn't count.

I've probably put that much mileage by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #15 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 11:54:12 AM EST
on my feet in the past 4 years.

Let's see... I go for a 3 to 4 mile walk every day. Round down to 3 miles/day.

7 days/week unless the weather is utterly horrible (hurricane/blizzard/etc.) So knock off 3 weeks/year.

So 49 weeks*7 days=343 days*3 miles/day=1029 miles/year.

And that's just the walking I do for exercise.

2006 and 2007 were wasted years by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #16 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 12:29:57 PM EST
In 2006, my arthritic condition was so bad that at my best, I felt like I got 4 hours of sleep the night before, and walking more than block was a physical ordeal. Kicking a soccer ball was unbearably painful. I was usually in no condition to push my bike out of the garage, let alone ride. What with my float problems, I probably rode less than 100 miles.

2007 got better, but then I had the leaky crankshaft to deal with. I don't know if I've resolved that yet.

First year I got the bike on the road in the middle of summer, and did 1000 miles.

The next year I did about 3000, then had two bad years.

You're planning what now? by Rogerborg (2.00 / 0) #17 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 01:53:22 PM EST
When can I expect that to begin?

If you're in better financial straits than me by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #18 Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 02:00:08 PM EST
which is about 90% of the people reading husi, you can buy a newer scooter, with a warranty, and not have to keep taking apart a 32 year old bike to keep it running.

The engine won't turn over, the last time it was like this the starter clutch got stuck to the crankshaft.

It's an epidemic.
